| theatre director & creator
Bio
Director/devisor/dramaturg, Asta (she/her) desires to work fluidly between — physical & visual theatre — new opera/musicals —and Shakespeare. Her own creations hold conversation with history, mythology, the natural world, growing from an interest in form, in the art of how something is told as much as what is being told.
Emerging from and engaging with international communities, she hails from Bangalore / Mussoorie, India, and studied at NYU’s multidisciplinary studio, Playwrights Horizons Theater School to develop an intersectional directing practice that emphasizes co-creation and shared ownership in collaborative processes. She completed NYU’s acting program in Berlin, training in Stanislavski’s active analysis, Brecht’s Epic theatre & Gestus and post-dramatic theatre. She primarily engages with new work, collaborating with a range of artists, and has worked & connectioned with experimental theatre collective, the TEAM, and Under the Radar festival.
Though primarily directing, Asta stays in tune by spreading across disciplines, occasionally as a performer, mover, dramaturg, or writer.
She holds a BFA in Drama (directing concentration) from New York University, graduating Summa Cum Laude, was awarded Outstanding Achievement in Studio and the honorific role of Class of 2026 banner bearer.
